Professor Tom Keymer was one of 30 leading scholars from the humanities and social sciences elected in July 2024 as International Fellows of the British Academy. His recent publications include a short biography (co-authored with former UofT undergraduate Frank Qiao) of the regicidal printer John Twyn, who was hanged for treason in 1664; also a new edition of Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey in the Oxford World's Classics series. His accompanying piece on the OUPblog ("Before Northanger Abbey: Jane Austen and 'Susan'") explores why the publisher who bought the first version of the novel advertised it widely but then spiked it.
In October, Professor Keymer is a plenary speaker at the AGM of the Jane Austen Society of North America in Cleveland, Ohio. On November 13th, in U of T's Fisher Library, he gives the Annual Jackman Lecture in the Humanities on "Jane Austen and the Jurassic."
